“I'm a medically retired combat Veteran who has experience both inside and outside of the prison walls. I serve as an advocate to the Veterans and their family members by assisting with navigating the intricacies of the service member's benefits before, during, and after incarceration - including VA Disability Compensation, transfer to Veterans' dorms/pods where available, and post-release housing and job resources that are specifically available to the Veteran community. “.

“I have lived the life of an incarcerated individual in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 10 years. I understand on a deep level the concern that loved ones have for their incarcerated individuals, but I know firsthand the system works and the best avenues of rehabilitation. Many things need to be addressed that happen on the other side of those gates and will only happen with support. This is for the ones that we left behind. I have navigated my successful reentry for over a year."

Hebrews 13:3 "Remember those who are in prison, as though you are in prison with them, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

“My name is Mary Ann, and I live in West Texas. I have been working in higher education for about 13 years. I like to help students achieve and reach their goals, which is why I like working in higher education. I have a bachelor’s degree and am working on my master’s degree in education. I have worked as a GED instructor for two years and love helping students get their GEDs. I wanted to volunteer at TPA as a Re-entry mentor to help formally incarcerated individuals transition back into society. So many obstacles are in the way of them being successful. I want to be a part of TPA to help educate families and guide and support formally incarcerated individuals to find resources to help them succeed back in society. I am excited to participate in TPA and look forward to helping.”

“Having a healthy support system and resources available to those who greatly desire to succeed beyond the walls and chains of their circumstances is extremely beneficial. I have learned that we cannot fix or change our loved ones or others we care about who are suffering the consequences of their behaviors. We can, however, remain supportive to them without enabling them to help prevent the negative consequences of repeated behaviors that affect them and the ones that love them. That desire in my heart is also, to be able to help others, if even just one, to know success through making better choices because they are supported in the best way possible through encouragement, resources available to them, and even with hands held in prayer.“
